Thursday August 11

6-8 PM: Dessert Sale at the Congregational Church. Snack on some home-made sweets while supporting a landmark in our community!

6-8 PM: Family Fun Night at the Portage Lake Recreation Area behind the Town Hall. Come out for a community kickball game, try your hand at pickleball, or just play on the playground! It’s all about having fun with your neighbors! (Please bring your own chairs as seating isn’t available).


Friday August 12

6-8 PM: Trick-or-Treat in your favorite costume all around town! If you want to have kids stop by your house for some goodies, be sure to decorate your front door or driveway entrance with Halloween décor! Let the Town Office know if you are giving candy—we’ll add you to a list of “safe houses”: 207-435-4361.


Saturday August 13

9-3 pm: Museum Open House, Portage Lake Historical Society Museum at 9 Cottage Rd. Donations accepted. Come in to explore the history of Portage Lake in our local museum! Raffle tickets for sale on a hand-made wall cabinet!

10 am to 1 pm:  Whoopie Pie Sale Festival at Portage Lake Tennis Courts behind the Town Hall. Come and eat some sweet treats, visit with friends, enjoy live music with the duet Hoss & Lurleen! Vendors, a $15 fee gets you a 12X12 space to sell Whoopie Pies and other fares of your choice; registration forms are available above or at Coffin’s. All vendors must have Whoopie Pies available. Contact the Town Office FMI.

1-3:30 PM: Cardboard Boat Race at public beach on West Road. Pick up a registration form at Coffin’s, follow the rules of the race (see entry form above), and bring it down to see if you have the best boat that floats! Cash prizes are awarded for each category. Contact Serena Bonville at 207-227-0231.

3 PM: Motorcycle Rodeo at Town Hall put on by Pine State Motorcycle Club, sponsored by PLSC. Contact Tammy Kenney at 207-227-0449

4 pm: Pig Roast at Town Hall. $15 adult, $10 children under 12, benefiting Portage Lakers Snowmobile Club. Come out to see the progress on their new Groomer Shed building!

7 pm: Annual Canoe Carry from Little Machias Lake to Portage Lake (watch from the Seaplane Base). Canoe carriers meet Jim Dumond at Dean’s parking lot at 6; paddlers meet at the mouth of Fish Lake Road at 6:45. The Wesget Sipu drummers will be on hand to signal the paddlers at the Seaplane Base. Spectators, please be mindful of private property boundary markers. This event is sponsored by the Portage Lake Historical Society. For more information contact Jim Dumond at 207-227-1864.

8:45 pm: Professional Fireworks Show at the Forestry Wharf by Central Maine Pyrotechnics. Watch the fireworks show from the Seaplane Base beach (bring your own chairs). Boaters: keep a safe distance and have plenty of lights on for the safety of all boaters. Donations are appreciated (see donation form above). 

9 pm: Dance to “Too Far North” at Portage Hills Country Club. $5 cover, must be 21 or older.


Sunday August 14

Noon: Parade on Main Street, rain or shine. Theme is “Memory Lane”, decorate a float or walk in memory of a loved one! Line up on Park & Ledge Avenues. We welcome floats from all organizations or family reunions! If you would like to be part of the parade contact Rena Belanger at 207-435-2780 or the Town Office 207-435-4361.

1 pm: Cribbage Tournament in the Town Hall Big Room sponsored by Portage Lake Historical Society. $10 entry fee.
