Friday August 17, 2018~

6:30 PM: Luminary Jar Display at the Gazebo at the Municipal Building. Purchase a Mason jar for $5 and decorate it in memory of a loved one. Return the jars to the Town Hall for it to be a part of the Luminary display at the Gazebo, where a list of all those remembered will be shown. Jars will be on display Friday night. This is a fund raiser for the Portage Lake Historical Society, and all funds raised will go toward the purchase of the Old Town Hall building on Cottage Road to be used for a local museum. 6:30 PM: Community Variety Show at the Portage Lake Municipal Building. This event is a fund raiser for the Portage Lake Historical Society. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of the Old Town Hall building. For more information about this event contact Corrine Routhier or click here for a registration form to sign up to perform.

8:30 PM: Family outdoor movie at the Municipal basketball court, “Infinity War” PG-13. Suggested donation of $3 per person appreciated. Concessions for sale. Bring your own camp/lawn chair & enjoy the night air! This event is a fund raiser for the Portage Lake Rec. Dept. For more information about this event contact Rec. Saturday August 18, 2018~

8 am to 3 pm: Rummage Sale at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. All proceeds from this sale will go toward the purchase of a new rug for the church’s Altar area. Contact Carol Gagnon at 435-6342 or Sandra Soucy at 435-6224 if you would like to donate items for the sale or would like more information.

Noon to 3 pm: Portage Lake Whoopie Pie Festival at the Municipal Tennis Courts. Vendors can rent a space for $10, the only rule is they MUST have Whoopie Pies to sell (but they can sell other items!). LIVE MUSIC by Heath Bartley! There will also be a bounce house for kids, a dunking booth, along with face painting and other games and fun things! No cost for admission, but there is a cost to vote for your favorite vendor! Vendors should park behind the Town Hall; visitors should park in the field next to the Town Hall. For more information on this event, call Corrine at the Town Office, 435-4361. 4 pm: Pig Roast at Portage Hills Country Club. For more information on this event contact PHCC at 435-8221.

7 pm: Annual Canoe Carry from Little Machias Lake to Portage Lake (watch from the Seaplane Base). Canoe carriers meet Jim Dumond at Dean’s parking lot at 6; paddlers meet at the mouth of Fish Lake Road at 6:45. The Wesget Sipu drummers will be on hand to wait for the paddlers at the Seaplane Base. This event is sponsored by the Portage Lake Historical Society. 9 pm: Fireworks Show at the Forestry Wharf. Spectators can stay after the Canoe Carry and watch the fireworks show from the Seaplane Base wharf! Boaters may watch from the water, but keep a safe distance and have plenty of lights on for the safety of all boaters. This is a professional show put on by Central Maine Pyrotechnics. This event is made possible through donations from our residents and visitors.

9 pm: Dance to “Too Far North” at Portage Hills Country Club. For more information about this event contact PHCC.

Sunday August 19, 2018~

Noon: Parade on Main Street. Line up on Ledge Avenue. For more information about this event or if you would like to be a part of the parade contact Rena Belanger at 435-2780.

1:30 pm: Community softball game at the Municipal baseball field. People of all ages are welcome to come and play or just watch. Bats will be provided, but please bring your own glove if you have one—we have some but not many! This event is sponsored by the Portage Lake Rec. Dept.
