Portage Lake Summer Round-Up Weekend~ August 19, 20, 21 & 22, 2021!

COVID-19 has struck, but not everything is a loss! Let's celebrate all that we couldn't in 2020 with a "2020 Re-Do"! This year's Summer Round Up will focus on the things that make us happy~Christmas, hunting Easter Eggs, Trick or Treating, Thanksgiving, Fireworks and of course the usual things like the Parade and pig roast.  Contact Corrine at the Town Office for more information, 207-435-4361, This email address is being protected from spambots. Thursday August 19, 2021~
6 – 8 PM: Everyone can celebrate Halloween by going Trick-or-Treating in your favorite costume all around town! Don’t have a costume? There are some available at the Town Hall. If you want to have kids stop by your house for some goodies, be sure to decorate your front door or driveway entrance with Halloween décor! Let the Town Office know if you are giving candy—we’ll add you to a list of “safe-houses” for the kids to stop-207-435-4361.

Friday August 20, 2021~
7 pm: Christmas Greetings at the Portage Lake Pavilion! Tons of fun visiting with Santa (on vacation but making a special visit to Portage Lake)! Gifts for the kids, Ice Cream Floats & brownies a la mode for sale for a sweet treat, and singing some old-fashioned Christmas Carols! Who doesn’t love being surrounded by Christmas Spirit!

Saturday August 21, 2021~

7 am: Pancake Breakfast Drive Thru at the Portage Lake Town Hall, benefitting Our Lady of the Lake Church. Meals are by donation. Contact Corrine Routhier FMI.

9-3 pm: Museum Open House, Portage Lake Historical Society Museum at 9 Cottage Rd. Donations accepted. Come in to explore the history of Portage Lake in our interactive museum! Raffle tickets for sale on a hand-made wall cabinet!

10 am to 2 pm: Town-Wide Yard Sale & Whoopie Pie Sale.  Vendors, a $10 fee gets you on the map and a marker to identify you to customers. Vendor forms are available at the Town’s website or at Coffin’s. All vendors must have Whoopie Pies available. Customers-grab a map of participating yard sales at Coffin’s, the Post Office or the Town Hall. Contact the Town Office FMI.

4 pm: Pig Roast with a Thanksgiving Twist at Portage Hills Country Club. $12 adult, $6 child under 12. Did you miss out on Thanksgiving in 2020? We’ve got you covered! All the traditional pig roast goodies, plus turkey & stuffing!  Visit PHCC’s Facebook page for more information.

7 pm: Annual Canoe Carry from Little Machias Lake to Portage Lake (watch from the Seaplane Base). Canoe carriers meet Jim Dumond at Dean’s parking lot at 6; paddlers meet at the mouth of Fish Lake Road at 6:45. The Wesget Sipu drummers will be on hand to signal the paddlers at the Seaplane Base. This event is sponsored by the Portage Lake Historical Society. For more information contact Jim Dumond at 227-1864.

8:30 pm: Professional Fireworks Show at the Forestry Wharf by Central Maine Pyrotechnics. Watch the fireworks show from the Seaplane Base beach (bring your own chairs). Boaters: keep a safe distance and have plenty of lights on for the safety of all boaters.

9 pm: Dance like it’s New Year’s Eve to “Too Far North” at Portage Hills Country Club. $5 cover, must be 21 or older.

Sunday August 22, 2021~

Noon: Parade on Main Street, rain or shine,  honoring All Essential Workers of our area. Line up on Park & Ledge Avenues. We welcome floats from all organizations or family reunions! If you would like to be part of the parade contact Rena Belanger at 435-2780 or Corrine at the Town Office 435-4361.  

12-4 pm: Museum Open House, Portage Lake Historical Society Museum at 9 Cottage Rd. Donations accepted. Come in to explore the history of Portage Lake in our interactive museum! Winner of the wall cabinet raffle will be drawn.

1:30 pm: Easter Egg Hunt & Festival at the Municipal baseball field area for kids ages 1 to 5 (parents must accompany child).  There will also be a horse petting zoo, live music with Heath Bartley, face painting, food vendors & games so there’s something fun for all ages--a festival-like feel and a great end to a busy weekend!

2 pm: Cribbage Tournament in the Town Hall Big Room sponsored by Portage Lake Historical Society. $10 entry fee.
