Portage Lake has a variety of attractions, including a recreational area with a Fitness/bike path, a playground area, double tennis court that accomodates pickleball, basketball court, and baseball field, all withing the vicinity of the Portage Lake Municipal Building (which can be rented for special events). Below is an aerial view of municipal building grounds.
Portage Lake has a public beach with public parking, charcoal grills, picnic tables, new playground installed in 2021 and privies.
Portage Lake's Seaplane Base was once a hub of activity for area flying services to bring supplies and sportsmen to trips into the North Maine Woods. Now it is owned by the Town and is the landing spot for the canoiest during the PL Historical Society's Annual Cannoe Carry held each August as part of the Portage Lake Summer Round Up.
Portage Lake's Centennial Pavilion is a great spot for public & private events. Located in the area once known as The Flats (where housing for mill workers from 1910-1920 was located), it was built in 2008 as a way to celebrate the Town's Centennial Celebrations in 2009. The Pavilion can be rented out for private events, or can be used for a place to have a quick lunch or rest stop. Located directly across the street from the Seaplane Base, it is also a spectacular spot to view the annual Fireworks Show during the Portage Lake Summer Round Up weekend in August, or just to simply view one of our spectaular sunsets!
